At Next Wind Recovery, we understand that addiction is a disease. We offer support and medical care during the early days of recovery can make a difference. The physical effects of withdrawal can be not only miserable but in some cases also life-threatening without a medical team to help you through the process. However, many of our clients have jobs, family responsibilities, and community commitments that make inpatient detox difficult. That’s why we created our outpatient detox program.
What Is Outpatient Detox?
Our New Jersey detox center helps clients go through withdrawal from opioids or alcohol under a doctor’s supervision, sometimes using medications to lessen some withdrawal symptoms. Without medical supervision, withdrawal can be dangerous and even life-threatening. Our outpatient program can give clients a strong foundation for long-term recovery.
Are You a Candidate for Outpatient Detox?
Not everyone who enters a treatment program needs detox. It is designed for individuals with a physical dependency and those whose health would be considered at risk from withdrawal without medical supervision. These include individuals addicted to:
- Opioids and prescription pain medications
Good candidates for our outpatient program have a good support system at home, steady employment, and a vehicle to get them to and from the facility. They are also not deemed to be at risk of severe complications from drug or alcohol withdrawal.
Clients in our outpatient detox program visit our facility each day for several hours for treatment and evaluation but return home every day after their sessions. Clients can also work and fulfill family and community obligations. How long medical detox takes depends on the individual, his or her health history, and the drug or drugs involved. Withdrawal symptoms can last as few as two days for alcohol addiction and may last up to several weeks for addiction to benzodiazepines. We support our clients every step of the way.
During detox, we’ll first administer an assessment to develop a treatment plan. During the detox program, you’ll meet with your medical team every day. They will access your health and your progress and make any necessary changes to your medications. They will also monitor your health for any signs of serious withdrawal complications.
After you have completed the detox phase of the program, you’ll be encouraged to participate in group and individual counseling and recovery sessions. Our facility also provides an aftercare program to help you avoid relapse and to help you develop a more healthy lifestyle going forward. We support both 12-step and alternative recovery programs.
Benefits of an Outpatient Detox Program
While the best part of an outpatient detox program is that you can continue most of your regular activities while you are recovering from addiction, there are also many other advantages of choosing an outpatient program over a traditional inpatient detox program. Just a few of these include:
- Lower cost – Outpatient detox is usually less expensive than inpatient detox programs.
- Requires less total time – Outpatient detox programs are generally shorter than inpatient programs.
- Privacy – With outpatient detox, clients don’t have to explain extended absences to employers, co-workers, or friends. Outpatient detox allows patients to decide who to tell about their treatment.
- More freedom to make good choices – With outpatient detox, clients are able to continue doing the things they enjoy.
- Increased accountability – With this additional freedom, clients are charged with a greater degree of accountability for their actions.
